Herbal Detox Tea
Facts On the Health Benefits of Herbal Detox Tea
Although the traditional medicine community is not yet fully convinced of its effectiveness, herbal detox tea can make a big difference to your overall health. If you have been feeling sluggish or have fallen into some bad dietary habits once again, an herbal detox tea can really set you on the path back to health.
Modern life exposes us to a slew of toxins that are constantly assaulting our bodies. Fast foods fill our body with processed chemicals and fats that weigh us down and make us feel sluggish. Nicotine, alcohol and caffeine give us temporary highs that help us through the day but ultimately weaken our immune system and open us up to disease. And over processed meat products sit undigested in our bodies producing toxins and releasing antibacterial residue that were meant to keep the cows “healthy” in the mass producing agribusiness farms that are packed so full of animals they are virtual animal cities.
Detox tea, if used properly, can help us to cleanse our bodies of these artificial chemicals. Here are some tips and arguments for the use of herbal detox tea.
How to choose a tea:
You should look for a tea that has actual herbs in it. Because much of the herbal industry is relatively unregulated, you will need to look carefully at the teas you are choosing and read up on them. If you google the individual herbs you come across on the labels you can find the properties and the effects these properties have as cleansing agents.
For example, a tea that contains Echinacea will help you cleanse your blood and boost your immune system against potential viruses and colds. Spearmint, dandelion root and dock root, on the other hand, are all good liver cleansers (dandelion root also helps clean out the bladder). The combination of herbs is important and will have slightly different effects on different people.
Since all of our bodies are somewhat different from each other and have different needs, you will not only want to research the different herbs contained in individual teas but experiment with different teas to see what works best for you.
This method of trial and error also asks that we be patient and self-aware, two skills that are much lacking and at the root of many of our problems as a society.
Green Tea:
Although I don’t want to recommend any one tea as the end all, be all of herbal teas, a good place to get started if you don’t know where to begin is with green tea. This tea has great detoxifying effects and is easy to find. You generally can’t go wrong with it as a first tea to start you off.
How to judge whether an herbal detox tea is working:
It is sometimes difficult to tell when an herbal detox tea is working because as the tea first begins to take effect, you may actually feel worse for a few days. It is not unusual for you to feel more tired and maybe even flu like symptoms in the first days of taking an herbal tea.
Many people will stop using a detox tea at this point because they wrongly believe that the tea is what is causing their negative effects. In fact, what is happening is that your body is adjusting to not having the toxins in it. Just like when a drug attack goes cold turkey, the body feels a need for the toxins it has gotten used to.
A good tip is to give a tea at least 2-3 weeks to work itself through your body. If you still feel unwell after this point then quit your current tea and try another.
Use herbal teas a part of a larger strategy:
Although it would be nice if just taking an herbal detox tea would just fix all our problems, the truth is that herbal tea is just one ingredient in living a healthy life. Without exercise, a healthy and balanced vegetarian (or, even better Vegan) diet, proper rest, meditation and other stress reducing practices, an herbal tea will have an uphill battle against the many assaults our bodies are up against.
As always, it is always a multilayered solution to life’s problems. The well-lived life is not easy but it is its own reward if you’re willing to seize it.
